In addition to this, you’ll also gain access to our 24-hour emergency medical assistance team via the phone, regardless of where you are in the world.

Insurance cover for prescription medication and mobility aids
If diabetes affects your mobility and you require the use of a mobility aid, like a wheelchair, mobility scooter, walking frame or walking stick, Total Travel Protection can cover these too. Our policies include cover for damage, loss or theft of mobility aids up to £2,500. Please remember to declare whether you use a mobility aid if asked to do so when arranging your diabetes travel insurance.
We also understand that having diabetes means that you may need to carry prescription medication like insulin upon your person while on holiday, and this can be expensive to replace if it is misplaced or stolen. However, you won’t need to worry, as our diabetes travel insurance policies cover loss of medication for up to £300.

Single trip insurance
Planning a single trip? Our aptly named single trip insurance is designed to cover persons with diabetes for a specific single trip. We can cover holidays of up to 94 days to any destination in the world (subject to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office not advising against non-essential travel). Please note: Your trip must start and finish in the UK.
Cruise insurance
Total Travel Protection covers river cruises and ocean cruises as standard on all travel insurance policies - you won’t even need to tell us that your holiday involves a cruise.
When purchasing travel insurance for a cruise, it is crucial that you declare your diabetes (along with any other existing medical conditions). There's a good reason for this: if you require emergency medical treatment onboard a cruise ship or airlifting to the nearest hospital, the cost of treatment could get incredibly expensive if you are not fully covered with diabetes travel insurance. We can cover cruise holidays for up to 94 days in total - please remember to list all countries you will be visiting when purchasing an insurance policy

Diabetes travel insurance FAQ
What types of diabetes are covered?
Total Travel Protection covers all types of diabetes, including type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, diabetes in pregnancy and diabetes mellitus.
How do you work out how much my medical travel insurance policy costs?
There are four elements which determine how much a medical travel insurance policy will cost. These are: your age, your travel destination, how long you are travelling for and the details of your pre-existing medical conditions. Each of these elements contributes to the potential that you will need to make a claim and influences how much the claim is likely to cost.
Why do I have to declare my diabetes when I purchase travel insurance?
It is crucial to declare any existing medical conditions, including diabetes, when you buy travel insurance. This ensures you will have the appropriate cover should you require emergency medical treatment during your holiday. It also ensures you will be covered for cancellation should you become ill prior to your holiday.
If, during your holiday, you become unwell with a pre-existing condition, such as diabetes, which you have not declared when purchasing your policy, your travel insurance will not cover you for treatment. You could find that your claim is declined, or that you are only partially paid.
How do I declare my diabetes?
When you apply for travel insurance, whether on the phone or online, you will be provided with an opportunity to declare all pre-existing medical conditions, including diabetes. You will be required to tell us what type of diabetes you have, and then you will have to answer a series of multiple-choice questions pertaining to your condition (such as whether you use mobility aids or take medication like insulin).
