Does travel insurance cover mental health conditions?
Fri. 15th December 2023
When you purchase travel insurance from Total Travel Protection it is important that you declare all pre-existing conditions that includes those affecting both physical and mental health.
If you do not declare any physical or mental health condition that you have; your travel insurance policy would be void. You must also keep Total Travel Protection updated with any new mental or physical conditions for which you see a medical professional.
What questions will I be asked about my mental health when I get a travel insurance quote?
Total Travel Protection will ask if you have ever had any stress, anxiety, depression, or psychiatric condition such as eating disorders, drug or alcohol abuse or mental illness for which you have been treated or diagnosed.
Depending on the type of mental health condition/s you have, you will be asked some follow up medical screening questions which will be tailored to your specific mental health illness. You may be asked medical questions like whether you are under the care of a health professional and/or practical questions such as will you always be travelling with someone else.
Once declared and accepted, depending on the level of cover you choose, you will have cover in place for emergency medical expenses abroad during your insured trip arising from your existing medical conditions as well as illness or injury. Gold and Platinum policies offer additional cover benefits such as cancellation cover.
