Travel Insurance when you’re on a waiting list:
Whether you’re waiting for a specific procedure or further investigation into a diagnosed condition, you can still enjoy the excitement of planning your trip without the worry.
Can I travel while on a waiting list?
The short answer is yes! Being on a waiting list for medical treatment doesn’t mean you have to put your travel dreams on hold. Total Travel Protection can provide optional extra cover even if you are awaiting treatment or investigation for a diagnosed medical condition. This means you can explore new destinations, visit family, or simply enjoy a much-needed break without hesitation.
However, there are some limitations. If you are awaiting an initial diagnosis for symptoms you’re experiencing, travel insurance coverage will not be provided until you have a confirmed diagnosis.
What’s covered as standard?
Our travel insurance policies offer cover for medical conditions you’ve declared to us, even while you’re on a waiting list. While awaiting treatment or investigation won’t affect your medical cover while you’re away, there are a couple of exclusions when it comes to cancellation or curtailment.
Without the optional additional waiting list cover, you won’t be covered for cancellation or curtailment if:
- You receive a treatment or investigation appointment that conflicts with your planned trip dates.
- The awaited treatment makes you unable to travel as planned.
This is where our optional waiting list cover comes in handy. This option provides cancellation and curtailment cover for the following scenarios:
- You receive an appointment for treatment that conflicts with your trip.
- You’re unable to travel due to the treatment or investigation you were awaiting.
With this added optional cover, you can cancel or cut short your holiday and make a claim to recoup the costs, up to the amount stated in your schedule of benefits. Keep in mind, that if you wanted the waiting list cover to ensure everyone travelling with you could cancel their trip then they would also need to be covered on the same policy and have the waiting list cover option added too.
